WHAT: Raise Awareness of Human Trafficking

Overlooked populations – refugees, immigrants, girls, and others – are most at risk of being enslaved and spending their lives being exploited for the profit of others.

WHEN: Thursday, January 11, 2018 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 pm

WHERE: Johnson Square, Savannah, GA.

WHO: Zonta Club of Savannah

WHY: Beginning in 2010, by Presidential Proclamation, each January has been designated National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. National Human Trafficking Awareness Day is observed annually on January 11.

Jan. 11, 2018 - National Human Trafficking Awareness Day – The Zonta Club of Savannah, a local leader in the fight against human trafficking through service and advocacy, will be in Johnson Square between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. This community action will serve to remind everyone to learn the signs of human trafficking, look beneath the surface, and report suspicious activity. Contact kay.wilson@zontasavannah.org.

Zonta Club of Savannah is currently conducting a membership drive and is looking for interesting, involved professionals who seek to help women and girls reach their potential by working together, through service and advocacy, toward common goals. We hope that you will choose to attend our next meeting and learn more about what we do locally and around the world to see if Zonta is the organization for you.

Red Sand Project to Raise Awareness

of Human Trafficking

The Red Sand Project uses sidewalk interventions to create opportunities for people to question, to connect and to take action against vulnerabilities that can lead to human trafficking and exploitation. Overlooked populations – refugees, immigrants, girls, and others – are most at risk of being enslaved and spending their lives being exploited for the profit of others.

WHEN: Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.

WHERE: Forsyth Park, Savannah, GA.

Meet at South entrance to the Park.

WHO: Zonta Club of Savannah;

the public is invited to participate.

WHY: Beginning in 2010, by Presidential Proclamation, each January has been designated National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. National Human Trafficking Awareness Day is observed annually on January 11. The Zonta Club of Savannah, a local leader in the fight against human trafficking through service and advocacy, will provide the materials and invites the general public to participate in filling sidewalk cracks with red sand in designated areas of Forsyth Park. Afterwards, participants are encouraged to document their sidewalk interventions on social media using #RedSandProject.

This community action will serve to remind us that we can’t merely walk over the most marginalized people in our communities — those who fall through the metaphoric cracks. We need to learn the signs of human trafficking, Look Beneath the Surface, and report suspicious activity.
